The Osages -
Louis Red Eagle, Metza Bertha Big Eagle Jones

Louis Red Eagle, Metza Bertha Big Eagle JonesLouis Red Eagle was a brother-in-law to Bertha. He was married to Bertha's step sister, Mae Rusk. He was the son of Paul and Cecelia Red Eagle. Louis was a brother to Eddy Red Eagle, today's date of 1993, a retired chief of the Osages. Eddy passed away in 1999.

This looks to be the area around the cabin at Denver, Colorado. It was before air-conditioning. The hot Oklahoma summers the Jones's avoided by staying in the cool mountain climate. In the same way, winters were enjoyed in the warm seaside location at Brownsville, Texas. The late spring and early summer was the time they spent at the Osage ranch home. In Oklahoma this is a particularly beautiful time of the year. The sweet victory of strong Hereford cattle, white faces, dropping calves after having made it through the miserable winter was a most pleasant time. Dennis was the son and grandson of a ranching family. They did enjoy this time and season at the home in the Osage hills of Oklahoma.

At this point in her life Bertha was beginning to have health problems. Diabetes was a problem for her. Notice, in this picture there was a bandage on one of her feet.
