Parents of Mary Jane Selph are:

Harry Harbour Selph and Jesse Hannah Annis - Harry was 97 when he died; Jessie was 78.

"Harry was five years old when the Dalton boys came through the town looking for his girlfriend Belle Starr. Harry had been playing marbles in the street with his friends when they heard shooting. He had been told to run for the cellar when and if such an event was to occur. Mrs. Selph had made a cake when she ran to the cellar. When she came back to the house, the cake was gone.

Harry's father was the Doctor in Ingallis, Oklahoma. One of the Dalton's had been shot and came to him to have the bullet removed. The good doctor didn't ask for money..... but the Daltons left him a bag of money anyway." This was called the battle of Ingallis. Harry was known to make the statement that he and his brother kept the bank open during the depression through their deposits. Harry was a grocery man, but as a child had picked cotton for 25 cents a day.

It is rare for people to laugh at a funeral but the preacher telling these stories had the audience chuckling over their remembrance of the events surrounding Harry Harbour Selph's life.*

*As remembered by Mary Jane Selph, daughter of Harry Selph.
