HOZIER, the surname of a family in Lanarkshire, designated of Newlands. William Hozier, born 1758, succeeded his father, (who was one of the magistrates of Glasgow,)_ in the estates of Newlands, Thornwood, and Coates, in the county of Lanark, and afterwards purchased the estates of Barrowfield ant St. Enoch’s Hall in the same county. He married, first, Jean Campbell, youngest daughter of John Campbell, Esq. of Clathick and Killermont, by whom he had issue one son, James; secondly, Lilias, daughter of John Wallace, Esq. of Kelly, issue, also a son, John Wallace, who predeceased him. James, the only surviving son, a magistrate and deputy-lieutenant of the county of Lanark, succeeded to the above properties on the death of his father. He married, 1824, Catherine Margaret, 2d daughter of Sir William Feilden, baronet, of Feniscowles, Lancashire, issue, 5 sons and 3 daughters, viz., sons, 1. William Wallace, born 1825, formerly lieutenant in the Scots Greys; married Frances Anne, daughter of James O’Hara, Esq. of Raheen, co. Galway, Ireland; issue one son and two daughters; – 2. John Wallace, born 1830, died 1833; – 3. John Wallace, born 1834, in the Scots Greys; – 4. Edmund Sumner Jackson, born 1836, died 1837; – 5. Henry Montague, born 1838, lieutenant Royal Artillery; daughters, 1. Catherine Haughton, died young; 2. Jane Campbell, married in 1861, Randle Joseph Feilden, major, 60th Rifles, 2d son of Joseph Reilden, Esq. of Witton Park, Lancashire; 3. Mary Haughton Georgiana.
