Mini Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (C)
George Clark

EMail: George Clark
George Clark joined the Pennsylvania Volunteers on Feb. 29, 1864 in Johnston PA, along with his brother Issac F. Clark. He was around seventeen years old. His father's name was Samuel Clark, who later served along with his son George after Issac was killed in battle. He was in the Twelfth Regimental Cavalry and served under General Averell and later Sheridan.  At Kernstown on July 23, the Twelfth saw heavy loss of life to the rebel army.  Soon after that George was captured by rebels and sent to the infamous prison Andersonville. Two days in Andersonville was enough for my great * 3 Grandpa, and during a flood he escaped the prison and made his way back to his unit traveling at night.

His family supposly came to America from alsace-lorriane in present day France, though his name is Scottish, the year is lost. There could be different reasons for this, The Reformation, one of the Jacobite uprisings, etc. One knows anything about Clerkes or Clarks going to France or have any ancestors who had a brother Samuel Clark (born in the 1800's)?
