Donald
Jack “Mac” MacDonald was born on December 8, 1932 to Rose Anna Moyer and
Angus Gillis MacDonald in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He died
suddenly on August 19, 2005 at the age of 72 years in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, USA and was piped home at sunset on August 23, 2005 to the
strains of “Amazing Grace”. Mac is survived by his loving partner of many
years and by his family and many friends from around the world.
Mac’s
interest in genealogy started early. His mother died when he was 6 years
old. He was raised in Foster Homes because his father was unable to care
for him. In 1999 he finally found his father’s family. Shortly
thereafter, he and Rosemary began putting together a genealogy family tree
that now contains almost 52,000 names and continues to grow. Mac was a
kind man with a great sense of humor and he excelled at working hard to
try and help others find their family. He was a great genealogist because
he knew the stories of the people and the places they lived. He was a
special man and very proud of his Scottish heritage. In Gaelic he would
be known as “duine usual”, a man of worth. You are greatly missed,
Mac. God’s blessing on your journey home.

was a good friend of the Electric Scotland web site and used to send us in
wee articles to add to the site. He also helped arrange my stay in
Cape Breton during 2004 when I was touring Canada. He will certainly me
