Mini Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (R)
Ramsay-Sutherland, Jill

Hi, my name is Jill Bradley (Ramsay).  My husband's grandmother was Annie Sutherland who's family was from Galspie, Scotland and they came to Canada to settle in Galspie, Ontario, Canada - or maybe the settlement was then named after they came to Canada.  My husband's Dad, Fredrick Bradley was born in Canada.  Frederick's Mom, Annie Sutherland was born in Paris, Ontario, Canada.  Her parents came over from Scotland.  The Dad's name was Alexander (Sandy) Sutherland, his wife was Annie McLeod, Salspie, Sutherlandshire Scotland.  My husband's father said the Alexander (Sandy) Sutherland fought in the Napoleonic War and was given 3 farms in Canada.  He gave 2 farms to a relative.  This farm was near Embro / Woodstock / Paris in Ontario.  The one farm is still owned by one of the family by the name of Jean Gutherie (Sutherland).    He use to work for the company Penman and also worked for the company in Ontario, as they were wanting experienced workers.

The above story is passed down, I believe most of it is true, but sometimes through interpretation some facts can change.  If anyone knows anyone that had a connection to be above I would love to hear from you.  My husband Bill is very interested finding any information.

Now on my side, I believe my Dad's relatives are from Nairn, Scotland.  The family in Canada & US came over probably after 1900?  The names I have are:

David Ramsay, Nairn Scotland?, DOB around 1860?
Married to Helen Stokes.

Children of David & Helen:
William, Norman (my grandfather), Elsie, Donald & Rev. John R. Ramsay

Above child Norman (my grandfather), married Bertha Priddle, who I believe was from Nairn, or lived there before coming to Canada?

Above child Norman was born in 1882 and his older brother who was William moved to New York, USA.  The children of these 2 brother, Arthur Norman Francis Ramsay, was best friends with his cousin, Maynard Ramsay the son of William Ramsay.  Maynard lived in Buffalo N.Y. before getting married.

My Grandfather, Norman Ramsay, Born in Nairn in 1882, married Betha Priddle, but I don't know if they married in Scotland or Canada.

Please write me if you can direct me to any contacts or a way I can look into any relatives that I would like to keep in touch with.  My youngest son, Troy Bradley, age 15 is very interested and would like to find out too.

Thank you very much,

Jill Bradley (Ramsay)
