O hame came our guid man at e'en, and hame came he,
And there he saw a horse hitched where no horse should be.
    'Wife,' quo' he. 'How can this be?
    How came this horse here wi'out the leave o' me?'
        'Horse?' quo' she.
        'Ay, horse,' quo' he.
    'Ye auld blin' donnert carl, and blin'er mought you be,
    That's but a fine new milch cow my minnie brought to me.'
'Far hae I travelled and muckle hae I seen,
But saddles upon milch cows, saw I never nane.'
 
O hame came our guid man at e'en, and hame came he,
And there he saw a riding whip where no whip should be.
    'Wife,' quo' he, 'How can this be?
    How came this Whip here wi'out the leave o' me?
        'Whip?' quo' she.
        'Ay, whip,' quo' he,
    'Ye auld blin' donnert carl, and blin'er mought you be,
    That's but a fine new porridge stick my minnie brought to me.'
'Far hae I travelled and muckle hae I seen,
But tassels upon porridge sticks, saw I never nane.'
 
O hame came our guid man at e'en, and hame came he,
And there he saw fine riding boots where no boots should be.
    'Wife,' quo' he, 'How can this be?
    How come these boots here wi'out the leave o' me?'
        'Boots?' quo' she.
        'Ay, boots.' quo' he.
    'Ye auld blin' donnert carl, and blin'er mought you be,
    That's but a pair of milking stoups my minnie brought to me.'
'Far hae I travelled nd muckle hae I seen,
But spurs on milking stoups, saw I never nane.'
 
O hame came our guid man at e'en, and hame came he,
And there he saw a man asleep where no man should be.
    'Wife,' quo' he, 'How can this be?
    You're hiding Chairlie i' the house wi'out the leave o' me!'
