The Dignity Of The Court

The Bailie was sitting in judgement for the first time and anxious to show that he took his new duties with becoming gravity. When the proceedings commenced it was found that one of the witnesses was inclined to treat the Court with a certain levity.

After some consultation, the Bailie was ultimately advised to warn the offender that he would commit him for contempt of Court if he did not conduct himself in a proper manner.

"The Coort - wha's the Coort" asked the witness.

"I am the the Court" replied the Bailie with dignity.

"Troth, and ye're naethin o the kind" came the reply " ye're auld Dod Scott the plumber."
