National Kirkin Of The Tartan - 2005
The Washington St. Andrews
Society announces the National Kirkin Of The Tartan 2005.
This is an extraordinary
event in the life of the Metropolitan Washington DC Scottish Community.
The Kirkin takes place April 24th this year at the
Washington National Cathedral located the upper part NW Washington DC
near the Maryland line. Pipes & Drums, in full regalia, step off at 3:45
The Washington St. Andrews
Society has conducted the Kirkin Service at the National Cathedral,
uninterrupted, since 1952 when it was moved there from several other
churches in the DC area. The massed Pipes, Drums, & Colors will lead the
Society Members into the Cathedral Nave at precisely 4:00 PM for the
start of the service.
Upon conclusion of the
remarks by the guest minister, the massed Pipes & Drums march in again
to the High Alter with Society Members for the Blessing of the
Tartans. Remembrance of Departed Comrades, and Benediction.
Additionally, attendees are included in viewing an open air performance
of the Pipes, Drums, and Dancers of the Society on the south side of the
Cathedral immediately after the service. This is an exciting Spring time
experience in NW Washington DC.
For Society Members and
guests there will be a reception, by invitation, following this
performance. Please contact President John Bellassai, David Levite, or
Dave McKenzie for information as to the reception and invitation.
Members are encouraged to attend and meet new members.
