FOOTHILLS HIGHLAND GAMES

The Blue Ridge Community College campus in Hendersonville, NC, will be the site of the fourth annual Foothills Highland Games, sponsored by SCOTS (Scottish Clans of the South) Nov. 5-7, 2004.  The college, conveniently located just off I-26, will see cabers fly and pipe bands play as thousands celebrate their Scottish heritage.

Something of interest will be found for the entire family. Dancers will perform the Sword Dance, the Highland Fling and more.  Dog lovers will enjoy the prowess of the border collies as they herd sheep and ducks.  Athletes will toss the caber in just one of seven traditional sporting events during which the kilt-clad competitors push mind and muscle to the limits.

Children will have much to entertain them as well at the Children’s tent. Storytelling, scavenger hunts, and projects will be both fun and educational.

Clans will be available to answer genealogy questions and help to locate ancestral roots. Lectures by noted historians will comprise Education Day on Friday the 5th.

Sample authentic Scottish and Irish foods. Listen to the mellow sounds of balladeer Carl Peterson and move to the sound of the Celtic Rock band, Rathkeltair with Neil Anderson.

Hear the skirl of the bagpipes and get an early start on your Christmas shopping. The fall event will be made even more colorful with the swirl of kilts and the colors of the many tartans that will be worn and displayed. The college is an ideal site for the Games and gives the opportunity to make learning and discovery a new twist with this event.

Join us in this celebration where tradition and revelry come together and everyone is “kith and kin” (family) for a few days.
