The Family Tree - October/November 2004
Clan Campbell News

On June 23, 2004, Clan Campbell Society of North America gathered in Anchorage Alaska to hold their annual general membership meeting.  Over 40  members from "outside" joined with the Alaskan clan members for four days of business and  fun.   Society President, Ed Cattell led the members through the official business of the Clan while Alaska Commissioner, Russ Madigan and his organizing team made sure everything else was taken care of.  Although we were here for a purpose, there was plenty of time allotted for shopping and sightseeing.   One of the highlights of any gathering is the day at the highland games.  It was unusually hot for games day, with temperatures reaching the low 90s.  Lots of water was on hand to keep everybody cool.   The Alaskan Highland Games had never seen so many Campbell's at one time.  After the games, the clan returned to the host hotel to prepare for the evening banquet.  The festivities started with the presentation of the haggis.  Local Alaskans, Bruce Atkinson gave the traditional Address to the Haggis, while Bob Dickson provided the humorous English translation much to the delight of all.  Clan Campbell members Junny Jackson, Allan Campbell and piper Larry Campbell assisted in the procession.  Ed Cattell presented the two special Society awards in absentia.  Receiving the Clansman of the Year was Michael Thames Deputy Commissioner from California and  Michael Stevenson, East Tennessee Deputy Commissioner was awarded the Commissioner of the Year.  The Presidents Award was given to Alaska Commissioner, Russ Madigan.  It was a very successful four days and many members expressed an interest in returning to see more of our gorgeous state.
