Apple Deep Dish Pie


No Fail Pie Crust

Mix together:
1 1/4 C. shortening
1 t. salt
3 C flour

Beat together:
1 egg
5 Tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vinegar

Add liquid a little at a time and cut into flour along with shortening. Cut into mixture until blended.  Roll out and cut in one inch wide strips

Deep Dish Apple Pie

1 ½ cup sugar
½ cup flour
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 cups thinly sliced pared apples (about 12 medium)
2 Tablespoon butter or margarine

Heat oven to 425 degrees Prepare pastry as directed.

Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; toss with apples. Turn into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Dot with butter. Cover with crust strips which you can weave as a latice work top.  Bake until juice begins to bubble about one hour. Serve warm. 9 servings
