Gardening in America
Replacing old

by Nancy Fletcher

The lattice work on one side of the front patio is beginning to nead a paint job. Rather than paint I have decided to take it down and replace it with the plastic lattice that will need no painting. The white color was what I wanted in the first place but when we put that up they didn't have the plastic available here. Painting for me is a chore since I'm so allergic to any paint, plus anyone who has painted lattice knows it is a pain. A spray gun will do it but we can never seem to keep one of those handy for one reason or another.

Now is the time February 2005 before the grape vines start to green up to get this done. Winter is a time everyone fights the doldrums around here. I think it will give my neighbors a lift to see the new, shining white lattice.  This is the view of the house they see as they drive by in the morning to work. I know it will begin to remind me of greenery and the fun of growing things on my patio again this year.
