Salton McGibbon, M. D.


As a specialist in diseases pertaining to the eye, ear, nose and throat Dr. Salton McGibbon has built up an enviable reputation and during the period of his residence in Edmonton he has gained a large practice in recognition of his professional ability. He was born in Arkona, Ontario, in 1878, and is of Scotch lineage in both the paternal and maternal lines. His father, Donald McGibbon, was born in the town of Kuhn, Perthshire, Scotland, in 1832 and when he was but fourteen months old was taken by his parents to Canada. He was, married in Ontario to Isabella Cameron, of Scotch parentage. Her death occurred in 1908, while he Passed away in 1921, when he had reached the advanced age of eighty-nine years.

Salton McGibbon acquired his medical training in McGill University at Montreal, Quebec, from which he was graduated in 1902. He spent the years 1912 and 1913 abroad in perfecting his professional knowledge, studying diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat. He was in Vienna, Austria, the greater part of the time, and the balance of it was spent in London, England, and Berlin, Germany. Previous to that time he was engaged in hospital work in Mexico. He returned to Canada on December 25, 1913, locating in Edmonton, where he has since limited his practice to those branches of medical science in which he specializes, and his professional activities have been rewarded by well merited success, for he is very skillful and conscientious in his work.

While pursuing his studies in Vienna, Dr. McGibbon was married, in 1913, to Miss Berta Gottlieb and they have become the parents of a son, Ralph Wilfred, whose birth occurred iii 1914. Dr. McGibbon is an adherent of the Presbyterian church and in politics he reserves the right to vote independently, standing for all that is most progressive in matters of citizenship. Fraternally he is identified with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Manchester Unity Order of Odd Fellows and his professional connections are with the Edmonton Academy of Medicine and the Alberta Medical Association. He is constantly promoting his efficiency through study and investigation and his pronounced ability and high standards of personal honor have won him the respect of his professional associates and the confidence of the laity.
