Battle of Pinkie Cleugh


In 1547 a large Scottish army confronted an English force commanded by the Duke of Somerset. The English invasion was to be halted at Musselburgh, with the Scots holding a defensive line along the river Esk. On the 10th September, after opting to attack, the Scottish force was comprehensibly defeated on what became known as "Black Saturday".
