Finding Heart
My son Mark with His Auntie

My son Mark with His AuntieMark was seventeen here. This was in the spring of 1983. It was almost impossible to catch Mark on film. He was always busy. He had been working for himself literally from the time he was nine years old. He mowed lawns and it wasn't at all unusual for him to come home with his pockets full at the end of a day. At this age here he was working in the hay fields during the summer. He was up before dawn and didn't come home until after dark.

We never bought a car for Mark. He bought all his own "wheels." During his school year he worked in a café in the evenings. He was ambitious to a fault and never lazy. However, this made it difficult to every catch him in a snapshot. This was on the night of our Memorial for Christ's death and it was the only reason we were able to get this snapshot. It isn't a clear good picture either but is the only one we have of him on that night.

Mark's father, Rodney Flood, and I, Donna Jones Flood, did everything possible to keep our home and our family together. This statement simply says nothing in life and living is easy. So much of what we did was done with prayer and that prayer was in "fear and trembling." Of course, not all our dreams were realized as far as our own goals to have been set, but for the love we shared with our children all those dreams came true.
