J. Richard Hall

J. Richard Hall belongs to that class of men who owe their success to hard work and perseverance and he is well qualified for the responsible duties which devolve upon him as manager of the dry goods department of one of Edmonton's leading mercantile establishments, for he has a specialized knowledge of the business of which he has charge, having devoted his life to this field of activity. He was born in Sarnia, Ontario, in 1881, and is of Scotch descent in the paternal line, while his maternal ancestors were natives of Ireland. His Parents were Morrison and Annie (Bassett) Hall, the former a native of Clackmannan, Scotland, and the latter of Montreal, Canada. The father was born in 1819 and died at Sarnia in 1903, when he was eighty-four years of age, while the mother passed away in 1919.

J. Richard Hall attended the public schools of Sarnia, Ontario, until he was fifteen years of age and then started out in the business world, obtaining work in a dry goods store of that city. On reaching his majority he left his native province and went to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he secured a position as clerk in a dry goods store, remaining in that city for about two years. In 1904 he came to this province, making his way to Edmonton, and soon afterward entered the Revillon wholesale mercantile establishment as assistant to the manager of the dry goods department. He was not long in demonstrating his worth to the firm and was soon afterward promoted to the office of manager, in which capacity he has since been retained. He has greatly accelerated the development of this branch of the business, securing a high degree of efficiency in its operation, and his services have been of much value to the company, which regards him as one of its most capable representatives.

Mr. Hall was married in Montreal, on the 19th of November, 1907, to Miss Edith Maude Daley and they have won the esteem of many friends in this city. Mr. Hall is a Master Mason and a member of the Edmonton Golf & Country Club, while in religious faith he is a Presbyterian. He has led an active and useful life, employing every opportunity to advance, and his success is well merited, for it has been gained entirely through his own efforts. He is energetic, straightforward and progressive and measures up to the highest standards of personal honor and present-day business ethics.
