Krafts and Kooking for Kids Korner
Good-Start Scottish Oatmeal

You'll need:
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. old-fashioned oatmeal
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened chunky applesauce
  • 2 T. instant non-fat dry milk
  • 1 T. raisins
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/3 c. low-fat milk

Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan with the help of an adult. Add the oatmeal and salt. Reduce the heat to low. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Use an oven mitt, and remove the pan from heat. Stir in the applesauce and dry milk. Add the raisins and cinnamon. Stir again and cover the pan. Let stand for 3 minutes. Spoon the oatmeal into a small bowl and serve. Sprinkle with sugar and pour the milk over the top.
