Farmer Fred

"Moo moo," went the cow.

Farmer Fred led it to the barn. "Go and lie in the hay while I get the other animals." He went back outside.

"Baa baa," went the sheep.

Farmer Fred led it to the barn. "Go and lie in the hay with the cow while I get the other animals." He went back outside.

The cow lay in the hay, but the sheep was hungry. It saw a pile of corn that Farmer Fred had just picked. The sheep ate ten cobs. When the cow saw the sheep eating, it walked over to the corn and ate twenty cobs.

"Quack quack," went the duck.

Farmer Fred led it to the barn. "Go and lie in the hay with the cow and sheep while I get the other animals." He went back outside.

When the duck saw the cow and the sheep eating the corn, it waddled over and ate thirty cobs.

"Oink oink," went the pig.

Farmer Fred led it to the barn. "Go and lie in the hay with the cow and the sheep and the duck." When the pig didn't move, Farmer Fred went inside the barn and saw all the animals eating the corn. "No! No! No! Don't eat my corn!"

Farmer Fred herded the animals into a pen. The cow laid in the hay. The sheep laid in the hay. The duck laid in the hay and the pig lt out a loud oink and then he too laid in the hay.

Farmer Fred closed the gate and then went to see his corn. There were only two corn cobs left. He took them into the house and he and his wife ate them for supper.
