Jim Campbell
Through the Minches

Final Part of west Coast Trilogy

Leaving Skerryvore behind
We head up to the North
From the lofty cliffs at Barra Head
The light shines brightly forth
The rocky shores of Castlebay
Pass slowly to our port
Where Kishmul’s Castle stands alone
An ancient island Fort
As we pass Uist and Harris
In the early morning light
The Isle of Skye and the Cullins
Come slowly into sight
A mist between the mountains
Reflects an eerie glow
Swirling through the Machir
Like the tide now on the flow
Now moving fast before the tide
Loch Dunvegan passes by
Home of the ancient Clan MacLeod
On the lovely Isle of Skye
Next up the Shiant Islands
Garbh Eilean and Eilean an Tigh
Eilean Mhuire makes up this trio
Where sea birds and eagles fly
As we look out on our port side
The sun lights up the day
Away far in the distance
Lies lovely Stornoway
Tiumpan head falls fast astern
As memories fill my mind
Past Ness and the Butt of Lewis
The Minch now left behind
The course now set for Rona
Our journey nearly o’er
Three days of non stop fishing
Before heading for the Stoer.
