A novel
"Scotland-Massachusetts Bio-Bridge" building on the twinning of cities
Glasgow and Boston is set to create fresh opportunities for economic
growth from the sector on both sides of the Atlantic.
The partnership is integral to a refreshed Scottish Life Sciences
Strategy with the ambition to increase annual sector turnover from
$13.50 billion (£10bn) to $33.7 billion (£25bn) by 2035. Annual exports
to the US currently stand at around $5.5 billion (£4.9bn).

The link up also
strengthens the country's position as a world-leading centre of life
sciences innovation and discovery, First Minister John Swinney said at a
launch event at the University of Edinburgh's Futures Institute.
Maura Healey, the Governor of Massachusetts added they are proud of the
"spirit of collaboration" the two have built down through the years "and
of the ambition and innovation..that has brought us together."
Turning Ideas into Breakthroughs
The bio-bridge brings the life sciences communities even closer building
on ties and chimes with Scotland's newly-published "Programme for
Government".
Helping to build the sector's existing strengths plus accelerating
future growth through reduced regulatory barriers and stronger
partnerships between industry, the NHS and care providers along with
attracting further investment and creating high-value jobs.
Dr Claudia Cavalluzzo, Director of Venture Cafe Edinburgh, the setting
for the partnership launch, said innovation doesn't happen in isolation.
"Having expanded from out roots in Boston into a global movement with a
strong footprint in Scotland we're thrilled to launch this programme."
Powerful Launchpad
A dedicated channel for cross-border collaboration will provide Scots
entrepreneurs and life science companies with a "powerful launchpad for
international growth."
The bio-bridge is designed to bring business leaders across to Scotland
to explore investment and collaboration opportunities.
It will also introduce investor introductions, commercial partnerships
plus provide assistance navigating US regulations and access to
healthcare providers.
Scotland and Massachusetts share a special connection that continues to
grow from the World Cup when the Tartan Army captured the hearts of
millions in the States and around the world.
