Poetry by Alastair McIntyre
Marriage and Divorce

One third of marriages end in divorce
So why on earth accept those odds
Be careful, thoughtful, logical too
And gamble not upon these odds.

They talk about love conquering all
But why then are there so many divorces
Why is it that love can turn to hate
When you have prophesed your love to your mate.

It's not for me to decide your fate
But are you sure of love everlasting
And are really prepared for gambling
That your marriage will be everlasting.

Single I am and so I'll remain
For marriage poses many problems
Far too many for the likes of me
So single I am and single I'll be.
