Regarding  -  The Dog Act of 1966

Thanks for your letter of March twenty seven
Suggesting the thought that perhaps
"With regard to the Dog Act heretofore mentioned"
I'd let my poor dog's licence lapse.

Your note, I complain, caused surprise & some pain
For our Fritz wasn't fierce, nor a massive Great Dane,
But a quiet little Dachshund, who in the year sixty seven
Was suddenly called to the good doggies' heaven.

Released from worries at last he is free
Of inspector & catcher & council employee.
No need for a licence or leash any time
He wanders untagged & without risk of fine.

The Commonwealth Government invites us today
To three months' accouchement leave with full pay.
It matters not whether you are single or wed.
The prime factor being you've been put to bed.
The benefits also extend to your mate;
Those who serve also participate
To the extent of one whole week's leave --
Paternity -- the Government has to believe.
Whatever political party you wish to favour
It certainly pays you to be in  "Labour".
