Poems of Mac McAnear
Shangrila

Do you know where we’re going?
Asked the seaman of the mate
Who overheard the master say
As they were loading freight---
Shangrila!

Whispered as they moved
Things that they heard
Place they were headed
Gospel from a bird---
Shangrila!

The crew much elated
Kept the secret tight
Fear if  captain knew
Change out of spite---
Shangrila!

Worked doubly hard
To finish right on time
Every nitty-gritty done
Knew where they would dine---
Shangrila!

Sailed the wide Pacific
Going where they please
Where every date they celebrate
And Time a disease---
Shangrila!
