Poems of Mac McAnear
Divine Right

Told the Cretin he could be himself
Leave all details to them
Neglected to tell the whole truth
The job still pretty grim.

Just as in royal hey-day
When king by God anointed
Did as pleased since they on their knees
Especially those appointed.

When few could read or had any need
Became their prime protector
They looked to him to ward off sin
From any human sector.

After awhile with a thin little smile
And truth elusive with grease
He started a war that would feather and tar
Destroying the dove of peace!

Mightiest machine the world has ever known
That’s his arrogant boast
Doesn’t really care if foe in his lair
And we turn up as toast!
