Poems of Mac McAnear
This Hardy Clan of Scots

Red hot coals fired and fed
By this hardy clan of Scots
Love’s passion of rumpled bed
Fancy boards or makeshift cots!

Gamut run of many kinds
Those who fought the foe
A few disposed to use the mind
Others at home with the hoe!

Slow transition to Patrick’s yoke
Against the grain of a man
Appeal more to the womenfolk
And scorned youth that ran!

Self-pride the highest good
Measured with few words said
Fierce fight where they stood
Smashing fists, bleeding or dead!

Never tamed to pull the plow
United by magic hand
From earliest gloomy days to now
A formidable free and fearless band!
