Events and Festivals in Scotland

Scotland being a land blessed with an impressive culture and tradition, also plays host to a number of events and festivals through out the year. Known for its heritage and classy lifestyle, this place do flaunt a mix of events and festivals which makes it different from any other country. Flocked by tourists and travelers from across the world, Scotland's culture and traditions has always been something everyone has appreciated and loved.

Few of the Events and Festivals of Scotland :

Hogmanay means the New Year's Eve followed by celebration, one of the most prominent and noted celebrations of Scotland, the word “Hogmanay has been originated from the Norse 'Hohhunott' or night of slaughter, when the animals were culled for a midwinter feast. This festival also includes many traditional customs like first-footing, the song Auld Lang Syne, coupled with few more such traditions which makes this festival more elaborative. There is also the tradition of cleaning the house (known as "redding") on 31st December. Even its a holiday only in Scotland on 2nd January as well as 1st January for this big celebration.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival – This one of its kind festivals has a prominent place in the festive calender of Scotland, held in the month of August, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is said to be the largest show on earth. This grand festival includes theatre, comedy, dance, exhibitions, musical shows, physical theatre and many more such events which makes it far unique and grand than any other festival. As per the reports, this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival is expected to include 40,254 performers presenting 2453 shows in different venues around the city.

Kelmore Highland Games  This traditional gaming event is held amidst some of the most scenic and picturesque outdoors in Scotland with a varied gaming actions making it a special event. There are a mix of sporting actions for both adults and children, from tug o' war, hill race, tossing the haggis, throwing the Tirine Stone, to many more such challenging and thrilling events.

Foress highland games is yet another highland gaming event which includes a mix of traditional highland games starting from massed pipe band, tug o' war, heavy events, solo piping, athletics,highland dancing, road race, pipe band competition to many more such exciting treats. This highland gaming event is held in the month of July and remains a huge participating event with massive crowd attendance.

Durness Highland Gathering is an event which marks a day full of fun with a mix of events and attractions for all. From locals to visitors, this highland gathering attracts huge number of tourists and travelers who reach here to attend this Durness highland gathering. Many on track and field events like shot put, hammer throwing, tossing the caber and few more events and activities. This event held once in every year includes an array of highland games which always had a prominent place in the highland tradition of Scotland. Other than these highland game, the pipe bands, traditional dances will also add to your celebration.
