Hurricane Katrina, August 2005

This is such a large catastrophe that I've taken some pictures from CNN to record the event and the work done by the rescue services. Text at the bottom of the pictures also gives some information. As many people from other parts of the world may not have access to these pictures this will give but a very small indication of what has happened to the area. During this evening (30th August) we also hear that looting is going on in New Orleans and that some levies have broken and more water is pouring into the city. The reports tell of lack of food and clean water, lack of communications, lack of ways out or into the city, dangerous animals on the loose. Other areas have been heavily impacted as well and further north the storm has caused tornadoes which have created more devastation. The current concern is the rising flood waters in New Orleans. There have already been many deaths and more are expected to be reported as time of writing this.

It's certain that regular visitors to Electric Scotland have been affected by this disaster. There really aren't words to express my horror at the massive damage and stories coming in from survivors. I can only hope that friends of the site have survived and will continue to do so and my prayers are with them at this terrible time.
