Clan Cheape

The name Cheape appears in the 16th century, and families of this name have long been settled in central Scotland. John Cheape of Rossie, Fife, had two sons, General Sir John Cheape (1792-1875), who served in Burma, and Douglas Cheape (1797-1861), Professor of Civil Law at Edinburgh University. There is also a Gray-Cheape line in Angus.
