Chapter Eight – Lundie of Clatto


Clatto is an estate in the Parish of St. Andrews in Fife.

George Lundie in Saltgreen, was the fifth son of John Lundie of that ilk. Except for an agreement made between Robert Maitland, later Lundin, and George’s brother John, and George himself, George should have become Laird upon the death of his brother John Lundie of that ilk. He married Eupham, daughter of Robert Lundie of Balgonie. He died in 1655. They had issue:-

1 James Lundie of Clatto.
2 Margaret, married Alexander Nairne, October 26th 1666
3 Eupham, died August 11th 1664
4 Catherine, died in 1662
5 Magdelane, married Thomas Trail of Blebo-Hole, June 19th 1663,

James Lundie of Clatto. Born before 1634, married, on 1663, Margaret Bethune, daughter of Andrew Bethune of Blebo. James died before 28th August 1691. They had issue

1 Catherine, baptised August 11th 1666
2 James, died before 1709.
3 Alisone, alive 1708
4
John
5 Mary

In the description of the testament of James, eldest son of James Lundie of Clatto, he does not appear with the designation ‘of Clatto’. It is not known what happened to this estate upon the death of James Lundie of Clatto.
