RANALD ALASDAIR
MACDONALD OF KEPPOCH

May 2004; The Lord Lyon King of Arms, having considered the foregoing
Petition with the productions and proof adduced and having regard to the
Interlocutor of the Lord Lyon King of Arms (Sir Malcolm Innes of Edingight
KCVO) of date 27 August 1990 and in particular the Findings in Fact (1) THAT
the Petitioner, born Glasgow 19 February 1930, is the eldest son of Donald
MacDonald and his wife Margaret MacCormack; (2) THAT the said Donald
MacDonald, died Glasgow 4 December 1977, was the fourth son of Collin
MacDonald and his wife Margaret Gillies; (3) THAT Alexander MacDonald,
eldest son of the said Collin MacDonald did, while in life, nominate his
younger brother Huntly MacDonald, third son of the said Collin Macdonald, to
succeed him in the Chiefship and the undifferenced Arms of MacDonald of
Keppoch; (4) THAT Alexander MacDonald, second son of Collin MacDonald, has
issue, a son Collin MacDonald; (5) THAT the said Huntly MacDonald did,
while in life, nominate his younger brother Donald MacDonald, the
Petitioner’s father, to succeed him in the Chiefship and undifferenced Arms
of MacDonald of Keppoch; (6) THAT the said Collin MacDonald was the second
son, but eventual heir male, of Alexander (known as Alasdair Raonuill)
MacDonald and his wife Margaret Cameron; (7) THAT the said Alexander
MacDonald was the eldest son of Ranald (known as Raonuill) MacDonald,
crofter in Brackletter, cattle drover and dealer, and his wife Margaret
Ross; (8) THAT the said Ranald MacDonald was the elder son of Donald (known
as Domhnaill) MacDonald and his wife Margaret Kennedy; (9) THAT
Alexander MacDonald of Inverroy Mor was the elder son of Donald Gorm
MacDonald of Inverroy Mor; (10) THAT Donald Gorm MacDonald of Inverroy Mor
was the fourth son of Alexander Buy MacDonald 14th Chief; (11)
THAT no heirs male of the body exist of Allan MacDonald, of Archibald
MacDonald 15th Chief and of Alexander MacDonald the first, second
and third sons respectively of Alexander Buy MacDonald 14th
Chief; and in conformity with the Interlocutor of the First Division of the
Inner House of the Court of Session of date 30 January 2004, wherein the
said Court of Session (one) made a finding-in-fact that Donald MacDonald was
descended from and was heir male of the body of Alexander of Inverroy Mor
through two intervening generations recorded in the slionneadh of
Donald the Drover as Donald and Ranald; that that finding, taken with
findings (1) to (11) of the said Lord Lyon (Innes of Edingight) set out
above, completed the Petitioner’s pedigree as the heir of Alexander Buy, the
14th Chief of the MacDonalds of Keppoch; and that the
Petitioner’s entitlement should be recognised “for aught yet seen”, (two)
for aught yet seen OFFICIALLY RECOGNISED the Petitioner as Ranald Alasdair
Macdonald of Keppoch, Chief of the Name and Arms of the Honourable
Clanranald, Mac‑‘ic‑Raonuill, and (three) remitted the process to the
Lord Lyon to proceed as accords in respect of the Petitioner’s claim for
confirmation of Arms, THEREFORE, the Lord Lyon King of Arms, for aught yet
seen (Primo) MAINTAINS, RATIFIES and CONFIRMS unto the Petitioner and his
heirs male, Chief of the Name and Arms of MacDonald of Keppoch and of the
Honourable Clanranald, Mac‑‘ic‑Raonuill, the following Ensigns
Armorial, videlicet:- Quarterly, 1st, Or, a lion rampant
Gules armed and langued Azure, 2nd, Argent, a dexter hand Gules
holding a cross crosslet fitchée Sable, 3rd, Argent, a lymphad
sails unfurled and oars in action Sable flagged Gules, 4th,
Azure, a salmon naiant Proper. Above the Shield is placed an Helm befitting
his degree with a Mantling Gules doubled Or 6 7 , and on a Wreath of the
Liveries is set for Crest an eagle displayed Gules crowned of a ducal
coronet Or, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto “AIR MUIR ’S TIR” and
in another Escrol below the same this Motto “DIA ’S NAOMH AINDREA”; and on a
compartment below the Shield comprising a rock Proper charged with the
outline of a footprint are set for Supporters two wild boars Azure armed
Argent langued Gules crined Or, each holding a Lochaber axe, its head facing
outwards, Proper the cutting edge Sanguinée; and for his Standard three and
a half metres long having Azure a St. Andrew’s Cross Argent in the hoist of
two tracts Gules and Or with his Crest depicted once and the slogan “DIA ’S
NAOMH AINDREA” in letters Sable in the fly; and for his Pinsel
135 centimetres long and 60 centimetres high Gules, bearing the foresaid
Crest within a strap of leather Gules buckled and embellished Argent
inscribed with the Motto “AIR MUIR ‘S AIR TIR” in letters also Argent all
within a circlet of the Last, fimbriated Azure, bearing his title
“MAC‑‘IC‑RAONUILL” in letters Gules and in the fly, surmounted of a sprig of
white heather Proper, being the proper plant-Badge of Clanranald of
Lochaber, the slogan “DIA ‘S NAOMH AINDREA” in letters Sable, and (Secundo)
GRANTS WARRANT to the Lyon Clerk to matriculate the foresaid Ensigns
Armorial in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland. |
