Baikie,
Margaret |

The "Queen For the Day" at the
World's Fair in 1933 was a sixteen year old Scottish lassie whose parents
were from the Highlands of Scotland. The newspaper in Stromness, Scotland
reported: "Sentiment runs deep in the heart of the Scots, and it will
not be thought strange that the one Highlander who attracted more
attention than anyone else was the sweet, modest sixteen-year-old Margaret
Baikie" . Margaret also was an accomplished piper and owns hundreds
of dancing medals and trophies. She is now Mrs. Carl Johnson and still
active in Scottish events as a life member of the Illinois Saint Andrew
Society. (1998)
