Broadwood,
John |
|
(1732-1812) He migrated from Edinburgh to
London and married the daughter of the harpsichord manufacturer to whom he
was apprenticed. Broadwood (originally Braidwood) invented the piano and
forte pedals, founded his own firm in 1827 and built the first six-octave
grand piano in the world. The firm, which once led the world in the
manufacture of pianos, still continues today, operated by his descendants.
