Dewar, James (Sir)


(1842-1923) Scottish chemist. In 1888, with Sir Frederick Abel, he invented Cordite. He performed many experiments with gases and in 1891 succeeded in obtaining liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and finally liquid hydrogen in 1898. He introduced thermos flasks into science and industry, but did not capitalize on his invention commercially.
