Dyer, Henry |
| (1848-1918) born in Bothwell, he greatly
aided in the industrialization of Japan in the late nineteenth century
when he became the first principal and professor of engineering at the
(then) new Imperial College of engineering in Tokyo. When he left in 1882,
what had come to be called Dyer’s College, the emperor awarded him the
Order of the Rising Sun.
