Thomas |
| (b. 1847) Demonstrated the first complete
incandescent lighting system at Menlo Park, New Jersey in 1879. His mother
was Mary Elliott, of Scottish ancestry. This "Wizard of Menlo
Park" amassed 1,098 patents. Among his most famous basic inventions
are the stock ticker (1870) and the mimeograph (1876) which was the first
practical duplicating machine. In 1877 he produced the phonograph and a
year later the wax phonograph record. He is also credited with the
invention of motion pictures in 1894 and talking motion pictures in 1913.
