John Lorraine |
| (b. 1827) Edinburgh-born
songwriter and Civil War veteran. He settled in Vinton, OH and enrolled as
a private in the Union Army. He rose to brigadier-general. Agriculture was
his main interest but he penned the lyrics to several Civil War songs
which became popular including 'The Soldier's Battle Prayer' and 'The
Stars and Stripes'.
