Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (R)
Ross, Donald |
My grandfather was from Scotland. His
name was was David Ross and he immigrated to the USA. His son and my
father (Donald Ross) was quite an amazing man. He helped design the
heating and air conditioning systems of many of the famous New York
buildings. The ones I know about are: Madison Square Garden, the
Twin Towers, Radio City Music Hall, and the Chrysler Building at the
World's Fair. The Chrysler Building was built so well that
Michelangelo's famous "Pieta" was able to be on display for the
American people to see. We are distant relatives of the golf course
architect Donald Ross. My father was also one of the best golfers in
Long Island. I am sorry to say he is no longer with us. This
inspired me to tell people about him. His redesignings of those New
York buildings remain unchanged. Unfortunately his overseeing of the
construction placed him in contact with asbestos, thus leading to
his death.. Thank you for letting me tell you about my Scottish
father.
