Jack Steele

Thanks to Jack Steele for sending this in.

On my grandmother ( mothers side)

Elizabeth Ferguson Young was born in Doune (previously Perthshire), Scotland. Doune is a small old, community about 12 miles north east of Stirling Scotland.  It is now mainly a bed room community.  After schooling in Doune she worked as a maid in The Queen Victoria School in Dunblane, Scotland where she later met her husband.  The school was and is still a school for armed forces members children while the armed forces members serve outside of the country. The school was started in 1905 and still is business today.

In 1912 she married a retired army man who also worked at the school ( grounds keeper) and shortly took up residence in the castle keepers cottage , at Doune castle, on the  edge of Doune.  They lived there and took care of the castle until her husband died in 1946, where she retired to Perth, Scotland. She had two children.   She died in 1968 in Perth.  Her married name was Denson, her husband came from the area north of Inverness Scotland. He was a member of the Cameron Highlanders, until he left the army in 1908. They are both buried in the Doune cemetery.
