Mini Biographies of Scots and Scots Descendants (S)
Stevenson Family

My grandmother Margaret C. Steveson  was from Kilbirne in Aryshire. she and her sister Mary Stevenson left Scotland in 1921 to come to America for a better life they were oldest of 12 children, they worked here and sent money back for their father and the next two oldest children to come over, then eventually they all came here by 1923 they ended up settling in West Virginia. My grandfather Alexander Busby was from Motherwell he came here as a small boy with his parents and sisters and grandparents they went to a Pennsylvania coalmining town where my great grandfather was killed in a mining accident when my grandfather was a small boy, his mother eventually remarried and they moved to West Virginia. Where he worked in the mines and  steel mill and met and Married my Grandmother, they had two children one of which was my mother. As a child we used to listen for hours and hours to my  grandparents Scottish records and listen to the stories of how they came to America I once asked my grandmother why she had to leave and if she missed Scotland and she said yes but they had to leave so they could have jobs. When I see pictures of Scotland and we go to West Virginia where most of our Relatives are still I see why they ended up their because it reminded them of home.
