Nancy Bellzona's Picture Book
Lee Otis Jones

These Joneses lived where clouds drift in great bellowing white bunches sometimes leaning over the prairie land so close almost as if to touch it. One felt that if they reached their hands and arms up the very substance of them could be felt. The sky was so big that suddenly one is reminded of their own smallness. Instead of loneliness, a great blending of mind and heart with the land lend to the individual a strange secure ability to deal with whatever happening might be theirs to live and endure or enjoy.

The winds moan eternally and almost speak well enough to frighten the faint of heart away. Those who have finished a long day with unending toil are blessed with the deep sleep not listening or hearing this groaning and sometimes banshee like torment for those who are sleeping light. Some said it was this wind wearing and tearing eternally at these people of the prairie that was most responsible for many to leave.

On the other hand, it was these same winds that could blow across the grass making it look as if a great green sea was rippling in the sunlight. How many mouths have been fed from the rich meadow hay that grew after the rock was removed from it?

This challenge is offered to those who might want to continue this backward search of family through time. The Astor's sold The American Fur Trading company to John Brewer.? (unresearched). The Astor that went down with the Titanic was trusting and believed in the ability of those who built the mighty vessel. Today, scientist discover the high sulfur content of the metal caused it to be brittle and even more so in frigid temperatures, a factor in its breaking apart.

In 1998, with the newly obtained material from the Paschal Pensoneau files and biography, a grandfather who worked for John Jacob Astor in the American Fur Company, more research will open many other doors into the Pensoneau branches of Velma Pensoneau Jones's family. A great thanks to one Roland Kulla for this information and from my own cousin-brother, Steve Pensoneau of the Poncas. Go to St. Louis and Chicago Universities for this material on The American Fur Company.

As the Bible uses a repetition of facts for emphasis, so I have repeated dates and events as a way to check and cross check for accuracy, no small chore in recording of dates and history.
