The professional career of
Dr. Gordon C. Gray has been marked by continuous progress that has won
him place with Edmonton's leading surgeons and his success is the result
of thorough Preparation and untiring effort. He was born in Sarnia,
Ontario, in 1884, and comes of Scotch ancestry in both the paternal and
maternal lines. He is a son of George M. and Alexia (Cameron) Gray, also
natives of the province of Ontario, who are now residing in Sarnia. They
were married in Ontario and the father has reached the age of
seventy-three years, his birth having occurred in 1849.
The grammar and high
schools of Sarnia afforded Gordon Cameron Gray his early educational
privileges and his medical training was obtained in the University of
Toronto, from which he was graduated in 1907, winning a gold medal for
high scholarship. The next two years were spent as an interne in the New
York City Hospital and during the last six months of that period he
acted as chief of staff. He then devoted ten months to postgraduate work
in London, England, Berlin, Germany, and Paris, France, the leading
medical centers of Europe, and returned to America in 1912. In the
following year he opened an office in Edmonton and in the intervening
period of ten years he has built up a large practice, specializing in
surgery, in which he has developed expert skill. He is also a member of
the faculty of the University of Alberta, delivering lectures on surgery
at that institution of learning.
Dr. Gray was married, in
New York city, on September 3, 1912, to Miss Sallie Jane Garstang and
they have become the parents of three sons: Gordon C., who was born in
1913; Ross Garstang, whose birth occurred in 1917; and Owen Vernon, born
in 1922. The Doctor is a Presbyterian in religious faith and his
political allegiance is given to the Liberal party. He is a York Rite
Mason and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine and is also a member of the
University Faculty Club and Alpha Omega Alpha, a college fraternity.
Professionally he is identified with the Edmonton Academy of Medicine
and the Alberta and Canadian Medical Associations, while he is also a
fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is deeply interested in
his profession, in which he has gained high standing, while his personal
qualities are such as make for strong and enduring friendship. |
