Poems of my cousin, Ura May
New York and That

That trip to New York’s town
Was for Ura May the last round.
A vacation she needed,
But not in this way weeded.

We wound through the Alleghenies
That was a breeze,
Their lush covering of lavender and blue
Were incredible to a prairie girl, true.

That state of West Virginia’s seasons
I loved for all the wrong reasons
The houses close to the road,
And crafts Ura May promised later to load.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike was brand new,
From Harrisburg with 9 tunnels straight through.
What a vision, and even a child knew,
This was a magnificent feat for how it grew.

New Jersey in a farmer’s field,
Was our first stop to yield,
Socialization like never before sent,
While we stayed with friends in a tent.

The showers were hastily built,
Plenty of water up to the hilt.
If a bit crowded that was okay,
We weren’t here for a long stay.
