Poems of my cousin, Ura May
A Beau Called Dano

I was in love with Dano, her beau
Ura May was not, wouldn’t you know.
He was tall and princely,
But not to her fancy.
He spoke so soft and kind,
Even a child could love his mind.
Didn’t matter what I thought,
As I saw the flowers he brought,
Or the way he looked at her,
Of his love for her I was sure.
But, suddenly, he was no more
Walked out and away through the door.
Why couldn’t I have been allowed to choose
A lover for her, and one she would never lose?
