Pardo Villa Acres

I paid a visit to the Pardo Villa Acres Farm Market which had been going since 1838. They grow their own fruit and vegetables as well as make their own jams, relishes, sauces and excellent fruit pies and other bakery products. This visit was made on Thursday, September 1st, 2005 and here are the pictures I took while I was there...

On the left is Mrs Pardo and her staff on on the right some of the old press cuttings and photos about the market.

They place a fly screen over the bakery products to protect them

They bake the pies on the premises as you'll see in a moment

and another batch comes out of the oven

The sell their chili and hot chili sauce by the case!

And their own pickles as well

Their own beetroot

Apple sauce and Apple cider

Their own fresh frozen rhubarb and peppers and absolutely delicious tomatoes

And as well as a large range of other vegetables they also do Maple Syrup

This has been a good season so I'm told due to the warm weather but still getting some rain. They have had earlier crops than usual and also later croppings of some crops. I purchased a melon that was picked that day and I was told this late picking hadn't been anticipated so it was a bonus.

And they even do a Maple Syrup recipe book!

And these are some of the fields where they grow their crops

And here is Mr and Mrs Pardo and their sign which you will see from the road

And this is what the market looks like from outside

And on the left is a picture taken from the Market across the road to Lake Earie

And so that completes my photo tour of the Pardo Villa Acres Farm Market.

and my thanks to both of them and their assistants for taking the time to show me around. It was a fun visit and I purchased some jams, pies, melon, relish and chili sauce. They very kindly gave me a complimentary pie for which many thanks :-)

PS I've had the time to try the pies and they are really excellent. They retain a lot of fruit flavour and unlike other pies I've had in Canada they still have some tartness to them which I find to be excellent. The tomatoes were easily the best I've ever eaten and the Rhubarb jam was also outstanding and so I'LL BE BACK!!! :-)

Got some more goodies on my recent visit in October including Apple Dumpling

Tuna and Shrimp Antipasto

Light Christmas Cake

Dark Christmas Cake

As promised I visit again on 15th November to take pictures of the staff that I'd missed and the Christmas goodies :-)

And as well as the cookies they sell these wee characters

And it should be noted that they do shut end of October and reopen on the Thursday after Mother's Day in May
