Clan MacIntyre Clan Gathering

CLAN MACINTYRE ASSOCIATION

~ 25th Anniversary ~

ANNUAL GATHERING & MEETING
July 11, 12 & 13, 2003

Held in conjunction with the
Dunsmuir Estates Scottish Highland Games

The 2003 Annual Gathering of the Clan MacIntyre Association is a very special event. This is the 25th year of the Association’s founding, and to honor that milestone a very special location has been selected. The Dunsmuir Scottish Highland Games is held on the 50 acre grounds of the Dunsmuir Historic House and Gardens (www.dunsmuir.org) near Oakland, California. This is only the second annual meeting on the West Coast and the first ever in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area. All MacIntyres and Wrights, whether Association members or not, are strongly encouraged to come to this historic Gathering of the clan!

Pictures from the event...

It was a glorious event.  I don't think there was one unhappy soul.  The pictures with the crowd was where we surrounded the Campbells and gave them an ice ball with a plastic white cow inside.  The head person had to hold the cold ice ball in his hands while I slowly told the story of how MacIntyres killed the foster brother of Colin, the first Lord Glenorchy because he tried to skim off merks from the agreed price. Afterwards we stole the plastic cow (coo) from their tent and gave it to them again the next day in a repeat performance.  There were 135 at the banquet plus 9 children 5 and under.  Marty

Top Photo:    A group picture at the Clan MacIntyre Tent of those attending the Gathering at the Dunsmuir Games, Oakland California, July 12, 2003.  At the right of the photo is Martin MacIntyre, Lieutenant to Glenoe.  The higher of the two banners is the Chief's Standard around which the Clan is supposed to gather.  The lower banner is the Chief's Pinsel, which is displayed when the Chief or his representative is present.

Second Row:  Clan MacIntyre was the honored clan and is seen marching past the Historic Dunsmuir House. The reviewing stand which is out of sight. Our piper is Mark McIntire of Sisters, Oregon.  The crest badge banner being held aloft was made by the McIntyres of Centerville, Utah.  The MacIntyre Standard on the right was contributed by James and Lynne Miller of San Diego, California. There were between 150 - 200 MacIntyres and Wrights as far as the eye could see.

Third Row Right Side:  The MacIntyre Family Singers performing in front of the MacIntyre tent. They are from one family led by their matriarch, Carole McIntyre and came to the Gathering from Utah, Nevada and California. Their singing brought tears to our eyes from our swelling with pride.

Third Row Left Side:   Martin MacIntyre (on the right), Lieutenant to Glenoe, raises his glass containing a large portion of very smooth 18 year old Glenlivet single malt in a toast to the Gordon Highlander troops who had just saluted him.  Martin is holding a glass that has a picture of a Gordon Highlander and the Highlander Sergeant is holding one with a MacIntyre Highlander on it.

Fourth Row: This is a reenactment, possibly of the Glenoe Massacre.  Might that be Campbell tartan on the man on the right bringing down the axe on the head of the poor helpless lad on the left?  Maybe this was the reenactment of the beheading of poor Johne Boy M'Ynteir c.1440
(falsely?) accused of murdering John M'Gillenlag, foster brother of Sir Colin Campbell, 1st Lord Glenorchy?
