The Royal Caledonian Schools Trust can Help Scottish Genealogists

The Caledonian Asylum as it was originally known had premises Hatton Garden from 1819 – 1826, in what became the Caledonian Road from 1826 –1903 and in Bushey Hertfordshire from 1903 – 1996.  In 1852 we received Royal Patronage and became the Royal Caledonian Schools  We provided support, and in a different way still do, for the children of Scottish Service personal past and present and the children of poor Scots in London . Although helping Genealogists is a by-product of our main work as an Education Trust we do have a remarkable archive with records going back to before our foundation in 1815, we have a virtually complete set of scholars files from 1820 to 1996, as well as some information about the petitions made on behalf of scholars from that early period who were not given a place. Many of our scholars were orphans nominated  in the early days by the Kirks and benevolent Scots and their organisations. We often get enquires and have been able to provide valuable information for those trying to trace their ancestors.
