From a descendant of  Nathanial and Aletha Collins Hobson...

It’s been a long time since we communicated.  My daughter recently found your genealogy website and drew it to my attention.  I very much enjoyed reading it and found the details in the Hobson and Collins sections to be identical to information I collected over the years.   One error that I found was the death date for Lewis MacFadden, first husband of Waltzie Hobson.  He was in the US Navy prior to the outbreak of WWII on the battleship Arizona.  He applied for and was transferred from the surface ship to the submarine service prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.  He was fortunate because Arizona was sunk at the dock in Honolulu by the Japanese attack.  He was on the submarine Tullibee in the Pacific Theatre for four war patrols.  On the fourth, she was sunk in 1944 by one of her own torpedoes that ran in a circular direction.  Only one man survived and it wasn’t Lewis.

I very much appreciate these updates from folks on corrections...

Hi Donna,

I wanted to let you know that the information I sent to you regarding Lewis McFadden was incorrect.  Mom sorted it out for me.  Lewis was Walcy’s husband, which I knew.  However, I didn’t know that he worked on a construction crew that built the Grand Coulee Dam, in central Washington.  Apparently he fell while working and never recovered from injuries sustained in the fall.  The sailor, who stayed with us in Richmond and then lost his life aboard the USS Tullibee, was Lewis’s younger brother, Melvin McFadden.  Hope this information is useful to you.

Louis
