Nancy Bellzona's Picture Book
The Osages - Mildred, Mary Agnes

Mildred, Mary AgnesOn back of this photo was written: "Mildred, Mary Agnes," and below that, "Mildred Big Eagle."

Bellzona sewed for the Osage people, for men, women and children, They had their pictures taken by a photographer and then sent them to Bell.

According to Jake Waller of the Osage tribe who works with The Whitehair Museum between Hominy and Ralston, Oklahoma, there was a photographer in the area whose last name was Brewer.

Elizabeth Ann, Bell's mother, was a Brewer. The family says they had Scottish and Irish blood. John Brewer, Elizabeth Ann's father was said to have lived on a land grant which was divided and sold.

This information will be found in Polk county, Missouri for those who are avidly interested in research.

America Hunter had a sister named Hulda Hunter. Hulda married William Clark, who was an older man. He had a grown family and children. They were: John, Sarah, Maranda and Jane. William's first wife was Rachel. Rachel Clark was born September 10, 1799, died September 8, 1856. She is buried at the Reed Cemetery, Polk County, Missouri.

Hulda Hunter was William Clark's second wife. It is told that Hulda was married previously.

Hulda and William Clark's marriage certificate show them to have been married April the ninth, 1857. The 1860 Polk County, Missouri Federal Census, Benton township lists them.

This William Clark is the gentleman who went with Eda Brewer to pick up her son from Fort Girardeau after the civil war in 1865. Eda Brewer, wife of Jacob Brewer, with William Clark's help, brought her son home in an oxcart. He was ill with the small pox and died shortly after he arrived home. William Clark would have been sixty one years at the time. William went with her since the younger men could not be allowed out in the open for fear of being shot by, "snipers."

America Brewer is listed as the head of household on the Polk County, Missouri, 1870, Federal Census, Benton township. Her children are listed as: 1. Jeremiah, 19, born in Illinois, 2. Angeline 17, born in Illinois 3. Ede (named after her grandmother) 16, born in Missouri, 4.John W. (Wesley), 15, born in Missouri 5. Sarah M., 14, born in Missouri. Middleton is listed as being 23, born in Illinois.

Family records show also a Jake, Linda, Dode and, of course, Elizabeth Ann, mother of Bellzona. The Middleton shown above is probably Jacob, or Jake, since his full name was Jacob Middleton. Jeremiah's full name was Jeremiah Seabrom.

Mary America's calculated birth date is 1814, born in Kentucky. Elizabeth Ann Brewer, mother of Bellzona, Elizabeth Ann was a granddaughter of Jacob Brewer, calculated birth date 1790, born in Georgia. His wife Eda, calculated birth date, 1794, born in Georgia also. Three of their children were: 1. John W. married to Mary America 2. Samuel, married to Lucinda (Nance?) 3. Jacob Fletcher, married to Maranda Clark, daughter of William and Rachel Clark. Records of land sales to the children for nominal amounts can be found in Polk County, Missouri.
