Floyd E. McLeod

Lacombe is proud to number among her representative citizens Floyd E. McLeod, who is engaged in the mercantile business here. He was born in New Brunswick in 1872, a son of John and Mary McLeod, the former a native of Prince Edward Island, and the latter of Nova Scotia. Their marriage was celebrated in New Brunswick and the father lived in New Brunswick until his death. He was a stanch supporter of the Conservative party and both lie and his wife were zealous workers in the Presbyterian church. To their union four children were born, Floyd E., whose name introduces this review, being the eldest.

In the pursuit of his education Floyd E. McLeod attended the public schools of Port Elgin and in due time was graduated from high school. His initial step into the business world was made as a clerk in a mercantile establishment and while active in that capacity he took every opportunity that was offered to become thoroughly familiar with every phase of the business. Subsequently he determined to engage in business on his own account and for three years he conducted a store in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He then removed to Wolseley, Saskatchewan, and remained there five years. In 1909 he came to Lacombe and bought out the store, in the conduct of which he is still active. He carries a general line of goods of very high quality, and enjoys an extensive and representative patronage. Aside from the store in Lacombe Mr. McLeod conducts a store in Clive. In all of his business dealings he has shown good judgment and marked enterprise and has made his efforts count to the utmost, utilizing every opportunity to the best advantage.

In 1907 Mr. McLeod married Miss Mary Emmerson, a native of New Brunswick and a daughter of Judge F. W. Emmerson. her father was a very prominent and highly esteemed citizen of New Brunswick. Mrs. McLeod received her education in the schools of her birthplace and attended Mount Allison College. She is a woman of culture and refinement and is prominent in the social circles of Lacombe. To Mr. and Mrs. McLeod five children have been born: Norman, Robert, Murray, Mary and Grace.

The family are consistent members of the Presbyterian church and Mr. McLeod has been an elder for some time. His political allegiance is given to the Conservative party and he has always taken an active interest in party affairs, and was mayor of Lacombe for several years. At present lie is devoting his entire time and attention to his mercantile pursuits. His efforts have been an element in progressive citizenship here and he stands at all times for that improvement which will work for the permanent good as well as the present welfare of Lacombe.
